About Margaret (she/her/hers)
Margaret R. Nelson is a Cincinnati-based law student interested in opportunities in policy. Her childhood dream was to be President of the United States and her current dream is to do literally anything else.
Margaret is a current 3L graduating from the University of Cincinnati College of Law in May 2023. While in law school, she was a Policy Fellow for the Ohio Innocence Project, where she maintained working relationships with members of the Ohio State Legislature and conducted research on how wrongful incarceration impacts women. She also interned with the Hamilton County Court of Domestic Relations at the Family Law Clinic, which provides free legal services to Hamilton County residents with matters before the Court of Domestic Relations. Margaret graduated from the Ohio University Scripps College of Communication in December 2019 with a B.S. in Communication Studies - Public Advocacy, with minors in History and Political Science, and a certificate in Political Communication. Margaret is a member of Lambda Pi Eta and Rho Lambda honors societies, as well as the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority where she volunteers as an advisor.
Margaret is a native of Huron, Ohio and attributes her passion for community involvement to her small town roots. She has combined her passions for government and community since she was a teenager when she began working with the Huron Chamber of Commerce in 2016. She stayed on board until 2018. In 2018, Margaret worked on Joe Helle's campaign for Ohio Statehouse District 89. Despite Helle's loss to Steve Arndt, Margaret enjoyed canvassing her community and speaking with voters about the issues. (Getting leftover candy from parade routes was a bonus).
An accolade Margaret refuses to let go is that she was named the Sandusky Elks Teen of the Year in 2016 shortly after being named their Student of the Month in February 2016. She believes being *THE* teen of the *THE* year is something to brag about, even if she is no longer a teen and it is no longer said year.
In her daily life, Margaret is a Detroit sports fan - condolences are accepted, pity is not. Her first love is writing, and she has completed two novels with NaNoWriMo. She might even get around to editing and publishing those one of these days. She enjoys reading, and has already met her 2023 Goodreads Reading Challenge goal, not to brag. She loves music and movies - like anyone else with a soul. She also firmly believes that once a year a completely normal person should host SNL because if they're not funny, it would be fun to see them try and if they are funny, it still works. It doesn't even have to be her, even though she thinks she would be really good at it.
